What are ot pendants and air handling units?

A well-built operation theatre consists of anesthesia machines, surgical lights, patient monitors, sterilizers, and more. Similarly, operation theatre pendants and air handling units play an essential role in operation theatres. So, let’s learn about them.

First, let's learn more about the operation theatre pendant.

Surgical operation theatre pendant

Surgeon pendants are intelligent equipment that transports medical equipment from one end of the room to the other. They are helpful for medical staff and surgeons during surgical procedures. The pendant has rotating arms that efficiently supply equipment, such as surgical tools, gas, surgical instructions, and data services to the doctors. Additionally, they save enormous time and effort for doctors and medical staff.

Earlier, the medical staff would run across the room to provide whatever surgeons need. It would create hectic situations and confusion. Also, there were probabilities of hazardous slips. So, the medical department felt the need for a piece of practical equipment that eases the staff's work. As a result, surgical pendants came into existence.

Today, there is no walk zone inside the operation theatre room because surgical pendants do that job efficiently. It is suspended from OT's ceiling. The pendant's two arms deliver the equipment in surgeries from staff to doctors.

We'll now understand the work of Air Handling Units or AHUs.

Air handling units

AHUs are ventilation equipment that purifies the indoor hospital air. In addition, the air keeps circulating to remove toxin particles frequently. Air handling units are also responsible for air conditioning the hospital premises. They typically look like enormous box-shaped modules.

Primarily, all hospitals install air handling units at the top of the hospital building. So, the air circulates via air ducts. Each hospital room consists of air duct disposal. The air circulates from the rooftop vent to inside the room and circulates the air adequately. Air circulation primarily depends on AHU's fans.

Features of Air Handling Units

  • AHU's filtration units filter the air. Therefore, the air quality improves. Also, only clean and breathable air passes inside the hospital unit.
  • Most AHUs have temperature control machines that allow you to maintain the optimal temperature.
  • AHUs provide comfortable humidity in the room.
