Every Lab should have a Laminar Airflow. Here’s why?

A clean germ-free work zone is often an inescapable requirement of laboratories, testing centers, hospitals, etc. This is best achieved with the help of a Laminar airflow system.

A laminar airflow prevents particulate contamination through a foolproof process. When the air circulates at the same speed and in the same direction, laminar airflow happens. The air streams get no or minimal cross-over creating a perfect germ-free space.

Laminar flow systems are found in places with a high risk of contamination. These laminar airflow systems are the rescue rangers that constantly sweep particles in one direction towards the exit creating a clean zone. The exit for the germs is at the back or bottom of the hood depending on the type of laminar system.

The upstream area is always the cleanest germ-free zone which is near the face of the filter. This clean zone becomes the work station for the experts handling cultures or samples etc. In this area, there is minimal possibility of turbulence.

So there can be two types of laminar airflow systems based on various parameters and requirements like clearance requirements, design of work surface, location of the process, and safeguarding or minimizing the risk of operator and airflow directional requirements.

Vertical laminar airflow directs the air down from the filter placed above the work station. Whereas horizontal laminar airflow, the filter is positioned behind the workspace.

Which is better?

Well, Vertical Laminar hoods seem like a small room where the filter is positioned on the ceiling. This design helps in maximum extraction and removal of dust and micro-contaminants creating a better space to work and hence mostly preferred.

A horizontal Laminar hood needs more space on the floor and blows air on the face of the operator which makes it a little risky. But it is chosen as there is no sash and hence makes it easy to work.

Quality and design matter above all when buying laminar air flow or any other hospital furniture in India. Both are assured when you choose a reliable manufacturer and supplier. One such preferred manufacturer is Modular Hospitech. They sell the best quality hospital furniture in India at highly affordable prices.
